Police detained 10 workers of the Padma Bridge project for their alleged involvement
A youth was beaten to death on suspicion of theft in the Padma bridge project at the Mawa intersection in Munshiganj’s Louhajong upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Julhas Hawlader, 35, an auto-rickshaw driver from Kumarbhog Padma Bridge Rehabilitation Centre in Hawladar upazila.
After detaining him on suspicion, security guards and workers of the Padma Bridge project beat Julhas and left him critically injured at around 6am.
Informed, his relatives rescued Julhas from the spot and took him to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Meanwhile, police detained 10 workers of the Padma Bridge project for their alleged involvement in the incident, confirmed Louhajong police station Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain.
The detainees are Selim, Rabbi, Tapu, Al-Amin, Arif Hossain, Abdul Mannan, Israfil, Rubel and Sushanto.

He said security personnel and workers detained Julhas on suspicion of being a thief when he entered the Padma Bridge project Friday morning.
“At that time 10-12 people beat him indiscriminately with an iron rod,” he added.
“A case is being filed over the incident and the body of the victim is being sent to Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy,” he also added.
Meanwhile, the victim’s brother Akbar Hawladar, said: “As usual, Julhas took out his rickshaw on Friday morning. Since Padma Bridge is very close to our house, he often drove around the surrounding area.”
“But this [Friday] morning, we learned that my brother had been arrested for stealing iron rods. When we went to the spot my brother was lying on the ground.”
“My brother is not a thief. It’s was premeditated murder.”
