Munshiganj teen files complaint over death of her cat

The girl alleged that the cat was beaten to death over some land related enmity
A girl named Acchia Akhtar, 13, has appeared at the police station with her dead cat in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj seeking justice over the death of her cat.

She said her cat was killed over some land related dispute, reports Bangla Tribune.

Later, her mother Akalima Akhter filed a complaint at the police station on Sunday afternoon in this incident.

Acchia, daughter of Mo Kalam Sheikh of Furshail village of Malkhanagar Union of the upazila, alleged that Taslima, wife of late Siraj Miah and her daughter Selina, hit her cat with a wood around 12pm on Sunday, leaving the animal critically injured.

Later, they brought the cat to a veterinary hospital where on duty doctors pronounced it dead.

“I came to the police station to seek justice over my cat’s death. But the police first laughed at me. Later on my mother’s words they accepted the complaint. I want justice for killing cats.’

The girl’s father Md Kalam Miah also alleged that they had a long dispute over land with their neigbour Taslima. Her daughter also threatened in the morning that they would kill the cat.

“I never imagined that an innocent animal would be beaten to death because of a land dispute. We want justice for this incident,” he added.

Sirajdikhan Upazila Livestock Officer Shabnam Sultana said: “The cat was brought dead here. An autopsy will be done on Monday to find the reason for the death”.

Confirming the matter Sirajdikhan police station Assistant Sub-inspector Mohammad Islam said: “We went to the spot. The cat has been sent to Sirajdikhan Veterinary Hospital for autopsy. After receiving the report, legal action will be taken upon investigation.”
