Police inspector beaten in Munshiganj

A sub-inspector of the police was beaten allegedly by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s leaders and activists on the bypass road of Kushripara village at Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj on Thursday night.

The injured Srinagar police station SI Md Saiful was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex.

Blaming the BNP leaders and activists for the incident, Srinagar police station officer-in-charge Md Aminul Islam said that the party brought out a protest procession on Thursday night demanding release of its imprisoned leaders.

When the procession reached the intersection of the Dhaka-Dohar bypass road, several cocktails were blasted, and the party members set fire to one motorcycle and vandalised two battery-run three-wheelers, he added.

On information, a team of police rushed to the spot, where the agitated party members beat Saiful, the OC said, adding that evidence of the cocktail explosions were recovered from the scene.

The upazila BNP member secretary Hafizul Islam Khan, however, said that they did not know anything about such incident.
