The mass rally was organized to demand the release of all central leaders
BNP leaders on Saturday alleged that police obstructed them from carrying out a scheduled rally in Muktarpur area of Panchasar union of Munshiganj Sadar upazila.
They alleged that a mass rally was organized to demand the release of all central leaders including BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
However, police stopped the procession from Gosaibagh area of Panchsar union on the main road of Muktarpur’s old Ferighat area. Later, they held a road meeting in front of Panchsar union BNP office.
Abdus Salam Azad, organizing secretary of the party’s Dhaka division unit, said: “Around 11:30am, we took out a procession in Munshiganj’s Muktarpur area as part of the nationwide program. However, we could not march due to police obstruction and ended up holding a short meeting.”
In this regard, Munshiganj Sadar police station Officer-in-charge (Investigation) Ansaruzzaman said that BNP leaders and activists held a brief road meeting at Muktarpur.
