He was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after giving primary treatment, the doctor told our Munshiganj correspondent.

Talking to reporters, the victim’s brother Babul Sardar claimed that Shipon Patwari, brother of Mollakandi Union Parishad Chairman Ripon Patwari and president of Mollakandi Union Jubo League, along with his supporters forced Ziaul into a microbus from Beshnal area when the trader was on the way to pick his daughter from school around 1:00pm.

They took him to Amghata area near the chairman’s house and shot him in the legs with a pistol after chopping him with sharp weapons.

Later, locals rescued him and brought him to Munshiganj General Hospital from where he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he said.

Locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between Ripon and former union parishad chairman Mohsina Haque Kolpona over establishing supremacy in the area.

Babul said his brother was attacked by the followers of Ripon as he is a supporter of Kolpona.

Khairul Hasan, additional superintendent (Sadar Circle) of Munshiganj police, said, “We have heard that Mollakandi Union Parishad chairman’s younger brother beat a person. We are not sure whether the victim was shot. But we found injury marks on his legs.”

The official said police are looking into the matter and an operation is underway to arrest people involved in the incident.

Ripon said he has heard about such an incident but it is his opponents who are trying to frame his brother.

Shipon could not be reached for comment.
