A youth was beaten to death by rivals in Munshiganj over the dispute between the two groups of Awami League. The deceased was known as Tuhin, 27, son of Alamgir Sarkar of Mollakandi
union of the district’s sadar upazila. Tuhin died around 10:00 am on Tuesday (March 14) while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Dhaka. It was learned that Tuhin was beaten up in Pura area of Tongibari upazila around 5:00 pm on Monday (March 13). He was first admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital and later to a hospital in Dhaka with severe injuries. According to police and locals, there has been a dispute between sadar upazila Awami League Joint General Secretary and Union Parishad Chairman Ripon Patwari and former Chairman Mohsina Haque Kalpana over the establishing supremacy in the area. hairman Ripon Patwari. On Monday, Tuhin visited the prize distribution and cultural function of the annual sports competition at the Pura DC High School grounds. There people of Kalpana’s group picked him up and took him to the garden and beat him, leaving severely injured. Later the locals rescued him and admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital. Later, as the condition was serious, the doctor referred him to Dhaka. Dr Kamal Pradhan of the Munshiganj General Hospital’s emergency department said Tuhin was brought to the hospital with serious injuries around 9:00 pm on Monday. The victim’s body had marks of beating.
He was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongibari Police Station Rajib Khan said, “I heard about the death of the youth due to beating. Legal action will be taken based on the autopsy and the case.
