Two women were killed reportedly by their husbands at Sirajdikhan and Sadar upazilas of Munshiganj district on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Sadia Akter, 25, wife of Md Mijan, a resident of Saturchar village under Basail union of Sirjadikhan upazila, and Romana Akter, wife of Nadim Hossain, of Baghaikandi area under Munshiganj Sadar upazila.
Quoting locals, Basail Union Parishad chairman Md Saiful Islam said there had been a quarrel between Sadia and her husband for a long time over family feud.
At around 11.30pm on Sunday, they locked into a fight and at one stage of the fight, Mijan strangled Sadia to death, he said.
Being informed, police recovered the body and arrested the main accused Mijan from his house.
On the other hand, Additional Superintendent of police in Munshiganj Khairul Hasan said one Nadim Hossain hacked his wife, Romana to death at midnight over a trivial matter.
The victim’s mother said an argument took place between Nadim and Romana over a trivial matter during their son’s birthday celebration programme. At that time, Nadim hacked the victim indiscriminately with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.
She was taken to Munshiganj General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
After being informed, police recovered the body and arrested the victim’s mother and sister-in-laws.
The body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy and legal action is underway in this regard, ASP Khairul Hasan added.
