Nine arrested for killing teen over protest against stalking

The police on Saturday arrested nine people for allegedly killing a teenage boy for protesting against stalking schoolgirls in Srinagar of Munshiganj.

The arrested are Rajib, 17, Tahsan, 14, Rudra, 14, residents of the Baghra Magdal area of ​​Srinagar upazila, Shaon, 14, of West Kamargaon area, Md Shaheen Sikder, 16, of North Kamargaon area, Md Roman Mridha, 17, of Jagannath Patti area, and, Md Raihan, 17, Md Zahid, 17, and Md Abir Sheikh, 17, residents of Alamin area.

Srinagar police station officer-in-charge Abdullah Al Tayabir confirmed the matter and said that the arrested were identified by their movement in CCTV footage of the street where the incident took place.

He also said that Rehana Begum, mother of the deceased, filed a murder case at 3:00pm on Saturday against 19 people.

‘The operation is ongoing to arrest the rest of the accused in the case,’ added the police official.

A 17-year-old boy Nirob Ahmed was stabbed to death allegedly by a group of young people for protesting against their stalking in Srinagar of Munshiganj on Friday.

Local and police sources said that during the annual sports competition of Kazi Fazlul Haque High School of Srinagar upazila on Thursday, some young men harassed some girl students of the school.

Nirob and his friends protested at the incident.

On Friday afternoon, the stalker group stabbed Nirob in the head and chest with sharp weapons in the Kamargaon area of ​​Srinagar upazila, leaving Nirob critically injured.

Local people rushed Nirob to Srinagar Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
