A teacher has been suspended for cutting the hair of nine seventh-grade studentsof Syedpur Abdur Rahman School and College of Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj for not wearing hijab.
The teacher was identified as Runia Sarkar. She is a Biology teacher.
Sirajdikhan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sabbir Ahmed confirmed the matter.
School Principal Farid Ahmed said: “I heard that she tried to scare the students with scissors because they did not wear hijab. Maybe she even cut a little bit of hair of the students.
“The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon. I could not find out about the incident in time as school was over,” he added.
UNO Sabbir Ahmed said: “She has already been suspended. A committee headed by the upazila secondary education officer has been formed to investigate the incident.The committee will submit the inquiry report within the next three working days. Necessary legal action will be taken based on the report.
“Since the teachers are recruited through the Non-Government Teachers Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA),we will report them. The principal has been directed to take positive steps so that the students can continue their studies properly,” he added.
