Mozammel Hossain Sajal/Shakib Ahmed: Five individuals have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Munshiganj court in a sensational murder case concerning the death of ten-year-old Twakir in 2010.
Munshiganj Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Dr. Mohammad Alamgir delivered the verdict on Tuesday afternoon. In addition, each of the convicted were fined of Tk 10,000, with an additional year of imprisonment for non-payment.
The convicted individuals are– Rabiullah, Hannan Mia, Abul Hossain, Moin Mia, and Anwar Hossain.
According to the case details, on August 31, 2010, Twakir was left at home by his parents while they went to shopping in Munshiganj. Upon returning around 4 PM, they found Twakir missing and searched various locations for him.
After failing to locate their son, Twakir’s mother, Jharna Begum, filed a kidnapping report with Munshiganj Sadar Police Station the following day.
Three days later, on September 2, police recovered Twakir’s body from a nearby pond.
Following the investigation, Rabiullah, a known thief from the area, was arrested on November 3. During primary questioning, he disclosed information leading to the arrest of four more suspects involved in the case.
In their confessions, the accused admitted to abducting and murdering Takir with the intention of stealing a gold chain from his neck.
After nearly 14 years of legal proceedings, the court delivered its verdict based on the confessions and testimonies of witnesses on Tuesday, in the presence of three of the defendants.
However, two of the accused, Rabiullah and Hannan Mia, remain at large.
