At least eight to 10 unidentified men broke into the house of an additional secretary and looted cash and gold ornaments at gunpoint in Munshiganj’s Srinagar upazila early today.

The incident took place at the village home of Textiles and Jute Additional Secretary Selim Khan.

The adjacent house belonging to his cousin, Rezanur Khan Ratan, was also robbed in Shibrampur village between 2:00am to 3:00am.

Witnesses said at least two of the robbers were carrying firearms.

No arrests have been made till the filing of this report at 6:15pm.

Srinagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury said, “We learned that the robbers looted Tk 3,90,000 and 5 bhori gold ornaments from the [additional] secretary’s house and Tk 3 lakh and 12 bhori gold ornaments from his cousin’s house.”

Selim Khan’s elder sister Rowshan Ara Begum is filing a case as the plaintiff over the incident, the OC said.
