Some advisers indulging in luxury like autocrats, says BNP’s Ripon

BNP Vice Chairman Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon has criticized some advisers of the interim government for their “extravagant lifestyle,” comparing it to that of past autocratic rulers in the Awami League.

He made these comments as chief guest at a blanket distribution event for cold-affected people in Panchgaon, Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj on Wednesday, marking the 89th birth anniversary of late president Ziaur Rahman.

He said while the current administration is supported by all, it is disappointing to see certain advisers indulging in luxury, using cars worth crores of taka and multiple vehicles.

The veteran politician added that such behaviour is unexpected from members of the interim government.

“We believe that if members of the interim government continue indulging in luxury, the government will fall behind on its reform agenda and objectives. Therefore, we urge Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus to immediately remove those advisers who are engaged in such extravagance.”

He added: “Additionally, we call for the swift completion of the reform process and the arrangement of national elections. Otherwise, the country will face a severe crisis, including a national security threat.”
