A local leader of Awami League (AL), who was in jail in the murder and explosive cases in the July Uprising, died of heart failure early Sunday.
Deceased Sarwar Hossain Nannu, 60, was a former joint general secretary of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Unit AL.
It was known that Sarwar felt chest pain all of a sudden at around 3:30 am while in the jail. Sensing the matter, Munshiganj Jail authorities took him to Munshiganj General Hospital. Later on, he died at around 4 am while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Physician of the hospital Ataul Goni said that the prisoner might have died of heart failure.
Superintend of Munshiganj Jail Md Enayet Ullah confirmed the matter.
Meanwhile, Sarwar Hossain Nannu was buried in a graveyard at Noyagaon following a Namaz-e-Janaza after Asr prayers on Sunday.
