Munshiganj-3: ‘Paddy Sheaf’ awarded to Kamruzzaman

The speculation has ended for the Munshiganj-3 constituency, comprising Munshiganj Sadar and Gazaria upazilas. Candidate declaration for this seat, one of three parliamentary constituencies in the district considered a BNP stronghold, had been pending.

The nomination has been awarded to former student leader Md. Kamruzzaman Ratan. He is the Central BNP’s Social Welfare Affairs Secretary. Kamruzzaman Ratan previously served as the general secretary and member secretary of the Munshiganj District BNP.

At a press conference on Thursday afternoon at the Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced party candidates for 36 out of the 63 seats that were left vacant, alongside the 237 seats declared earlier.

Previously, on November 3, the BNP had announced party candidates for 237 seats. Munshiganj-3 was omitted from that list. On that day, BNP nominations were awarded to Sheikh Md. Abdullah for Munshiganj-1 and former State Minister for Health Mizanur Rahman Sinha for Munshiganj-2.

Kamruzzaman Ratan is a former student leader of Dhaka University. He spent three months in Munshiganj jail in connection with several cases filed during opposition movements. People are still captivated by his fiery slogans.

Following August 5, 2024, he has garnered widespread praise in this electoral constituency for his social and humanitarian work.
