Students, land grabbers clash in Tongibari

At least five students were injured in a clash between the students of Swarnagram Radhanath High School and local land grabbers in Tongibari upazila of the district yesterday.

The injured are Nahid, 15, Zahidul Islam, 14, Shakil, 15, Morsalin, 15, and Mehedi, 14.

Four locals–Azim Kawsar, Mohiuddin Vendar, Kamal Hossain and Nazrul Islam–have been running sand and earth business by renting a portion of the school land for long.

Students of Swarnagram Radhanath High School in Tongibari upazila under Munshiganj district yesterday damage shops erected by land grabbers on the school ground.

Recently, they claimed the ownership of the land, preparing fake purchase documents and started erecting shops on it (land), said Amir Hossain Bepari, president of the school managing committee.

As the students of the school were vandalising shops constructed on the land at noon, the land grabbers and their men attacked the students that led to a clash between the two sides.

Contacted, Abdul Malek, officer-in-charge of Tongibari Police Station, said no case was filed in connection with the incident as of 7:00pm yesterday.
