Police SI among 5 sued for torturing man at police station in Munshiganj

A case has been filed with a Munshiganj court against five persons, including a sub-inspector of Louhajang Police Station for torturing a man after blindfolding him at the police facility.

The victim Ripan Sheikh (39) filed the case against his wife Ruby Akhter (35), Md Rajan (26), Champa Begum (38), Tuhin (30) and SI Abu Taher Mia (40).

Taking the case into cognisance, Senior Judicial Magistrate Abdullah Al Yousuf asked the concerned police station to take the case as FIR, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Md Rubel, bench assistant of the court.

According to the case statement, Ripon had a long-running conflict with his wife.

Centring the feud, his wife’s siblings — Ranjan, Tuhin and Champa — had assaulted Ripon on September 4.

On the same day, SI Abu Taher Mia went to Ripan’s house in plain clothes and forcibly took him to the police station, beat him up blindfolded and demanded Tk 5,000.

Alomgir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Louhajang Police Station, said action would be taken in accordance with the court’s directive.
