Largest shipyard in Munshiganj to open in March

Khan Brothers Shipbuilding Ltd (KBSL) built country’s largest shipyard at the cost of Tk 100 crore which is sure to give a fillip to the growing shipbuilding industry in the country. Located on the bank of the Meghna in Hosendi union of Gazaria upazilla in Munshiganj district, the shipyard stretching on 300 bighas of land is equipped with world standard facilities.

“It’s the largest shipyard in Bangladesh . all kind of facilities required for a shipyard of global standard have been set in it,” Tofayel Kabir Khan, managing director of KBSL, told BSS today. The KBSL joined the shipbuilding industry in March 2010 with an initial investment of Tk 100 crore.

Khan, a young entrepreneur, said they have procured orders to build 24 different categories of ferries, oil tankers and tourist vessels worth about Tk 250 crore.

Of the 24, he said, one tourist vessel has already been readied to hand over to a UK-Bangladesh joint venture and keel laying of eight oil tankers and steel cutting of another 10 oil tankers would be completed by March.
