Sreenagar woman tied with tree, sprayed with chili powder

A video clip of a woman being tied to a tree and sprayed with chili powder at village Kamargaon of Sreenagar upazila over previous enmity has gone viral on social media site Facebook.

The police arrested the prime accused, Abdul Khaleque, 55, of the village on Thursday night after a case was filed over the incident. He was produced before a court on Friday.

The video footage shows Saleha Begum, wife of Azizul Khan of the village, was tied to a tree on May 27 and several people were throwing chili powder on her.

As the woman started crying following excruciating pain, the torturers burst into laughter.

The victim filed a case against nine people, including Khaleque, Josna, 35, Shabana, 40, Kajol Khan, 45, Lipi Begum, 45, Sohel, 25, and Rubel, 30, with Sreenagar Police Station on May 29.

Sreenagar police officer-in-charge SM Alamgir Hossain said they were trying to arrest the rest of the accused.
