Heavy equipment for Padma Bridge reaches Mawa

Mozammel Hossain Sajal: The third shipment of heavy equipment for the construction of the Padma Bridge has reached at Mawa by waterways.

Various types of heavy equipment including three big dredgers, three high-powered modern tug-boats, one anchor boat, a 500-tonnes floating crane reached Mawa at about 10am on Thursday.

The tug-boats along with the dredgers and crane departed the Shanghai Port in China on October 12 last and reached the Bay of Bengal. On completion of the customs formalities, the equipment was brought at Mawa using the tug-boats. Afterward, the equipment was kept at the river Padma adjacent to the Padma Bridge Construction Yard at Kumarbhog under Louhajang upazila.

It is learnt that the equipment will be used for piling and river training work of the Padma Bridge.

Ali Ahmed, executive director of SI Chowdhury and Company Limited, a clearing and forwarding agent appointed by China Major Bridge Engineering Co. Ltd, said the third shipment of heavy equipment for Padma Bridge construction work was brought at Mawa using the tugboats. The equipment include three large dredgers, one anchor boat, a floating crane weighing about 500 tonnes and other machinery.
