Failing to rape, madrasa principal strangled student to death, family says

Accused on 2-day remand
A court in Munshiganj yesterday (June 11, 2022) put a madrasa principal on two days’ remand in a case filed over strangling to death an 11-year-old student after failing to rape her in Munshiganj’s Sadar upazila on June 9, 2022.

The court granted two days’ remand of the accused after police produced him before the court seeking 10 days’ remand, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Rajib Khan, inspector (investigation) of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station.

On June 10, the victim’s mother filed a murder case with the police facility accusing five persons including Yunus Miah (34), principal of Madinatul Manowara Mahila Madrasa.

Sonia Akhter (30), wife of the principal, and Habiba Akhter (27), wife of madrasa’s director Mufti Jamal Uddin, were also made accused in the case.

Following the murder case, police arrested the accused principal on June 11.

Meanwhile, relatives of the victim and locals demonstrated in front of Munshiganj Press Club demanding justice regarding the incident.

Victim’s mother alleged that the principal tried to rape her daughter, taking her to his room on June 9.

“When my daughter started screaming, the principal strangled her to death,” she alleged.

After the incident, the accused secretly took the victim to hospital where on-duty doctor declared her dead, she said.

After performing autopsy, police handed over the body to the family members, she added.

Md Tarikuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, said attempts are on to nab the other accused.

The OC said they are investigating the matter.
