4 dead, 20 hurt in Munshiganj road crash

Four people were killed and 20 injured in separate road accidents in Gazaria and Srinagar upazilas of Munshiganj early Thursday. Of them, three people were killed and 20 injured in Baluakandi area of Gazaria while another person was killed in Harpara locality of Srinagar, our Munshiganj correspondent reported quoting police.

In Gazaria, the accident took place around 5:00am when a Comilla-bound bus from Faridpur plunged into a roadside ditch after hitting a goods-laden truck, said Tariqul Islam, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in Munshiganj.

The truck was stationary at Baluakandi on Dhaka-Chittagong highway, the ASP added.

Two passengers of the bus and the helper of the bus died on the spot.

Twenty more passengers of the bus also sustained injuries during the incident, Tariqul added.

Md Ashraf, 65, of Comilla Sadar Dakshin; and Jesmin Akter, 25, wife of Rubel Hossain of Barubar village–are the passengers of the bus; and Miji Md Akbar Hossain, 25, is the helper of the bus, the police official added.

The injured were admitted at different hospitals in the capital Dhaka and in Munshiganj, the ASP said.

In Srinagar, a youth sustained severe head injuries when he fell on the ground from his speedy motorcycle, said Md Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Srinagar Police Station.

The victim is identified as Munsi Sajib Pervez, 25, of the upazila.

The accident occurred around 2:00am when the Pervez lost his control over steering in Harpara area, the OC added.

He was rushed to Mitford Hospital in the capital where he succumbed to his injuries in the morning, he added.
