Three hurt in factional clash at AL peace rally

A clash erupted during ‘peace and development’ rally over seating arrangements on chairs, organised by factional groups of ruling Awami League, leaving three people injured in Munshiganj town on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred at about 5:00pm at the rally, organised by Munshiganj district Chhatra League, Swechchha Sebok League, Bangladesh Mohila Awami League, and Bangladesh Krishak League.

Among the injured, 22-year-old Md Sajal was sent to Dhaka medical college hospital in critical condition, while the others were receiving treatment at Munshiganj general hospital.

Ruhul Amin, an emergency department physician at Munshiganj general hospital, said that Sajal sustained injuries from a sharp weapon on various parts of his body.

According to witnesses, at the rally when Munshig anj-3 constituency parliament member Mrinal Kanti Das was addressing as chief guest, a clash took place among the followers of Munshiganj municipality ward no-3 councillor-cum-Muniganj town Swechchha Sebok League general secretary Makbul Hossain, and BCL president of Panchasar Union Parishad Zahid Hasan. The dispute initially arose over seating arrangements, leading to a clash eventually, they said.

Makbul said that the clash broke out over a trivial matter, and they managed to settle the dispute later.

On the other hand, Zahid said that three of his followers were injured in the clash over seating issues.

Munshiganj sadar police station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam said that stabbing incidents were a result of factional feuds, and legal action would be taken if anyone files complaint.
