Shipping deals to be implemented during Modi’s visit: Shajahan Khan

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan Friday said shipping-related bilateral agreements would be implemented during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Dhaka visit.

He said this while talking to journalists after a general meeting of district Awami League at Shibchar in Madaripur

The shipping minister said all bilateral issues, including agreements on coastal shipping and naval protocol, would be discussed and implemented during PM Modi’s visit.

“Ships from Kolkata used to reach Chittagong via Sri Lanka or Singapore taking 15 to 20 days, but now the ships will arrive at Chittagong from Kolkata in only six days because of these agreements,” the minister told BSS.

Earlier in Munshiganj, the minister said the Padma Bridge is being constructed with own resources will open to traffic by 2018.

He said the authorities would maintain extra caution in transportation of waterway passengers during the Eid festivals.
