Looted police firearms recovered

The firearms of police looted by some cohorts of a fugitive accused on Sunday morning were recovered from Tulshikhali Bazar in Sirajdikhan upazila later at noon.

Police super of the district M Shafikul Islam said police recovered the looted short-gun from a jungle and the rifle from an abandoned raised hut at the bazar.

But the looted 35 rounds of bullet could not yet be recovered.

Officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan thana Mehedi Hasan said four policemen were injured, one critically, as some accomplices of the fugitive accused, Afiluddin, 42, swooped on them when a police team led by ASI Parimol was taking the accused to Tulshikhali Bazar in Sirajdikhan upazila at about 6:45 am.

He said they also snatched the handcuffed accused and looted two firearms and 35 rounds of bullet of the law enforcers.

The injured policemen were identified as Parimol Chandra, Gias Uddin, Rhidoy and Russell.

Local people rescued the injured policemen and took them to Mitford Hospital, where Parimol’s condition was stated to be critical.

“A manhunt has been launched to arrest the attackers,” the SP said.

Additional police have been deployed in the area.
