Man sent to jail over remarks on Facebook

He has given a confessional statement before the court
A Facebook has sent a 20-year-old man to jail for making offensive remarks on Facebook about the Holy Quran.

The accused, Joy Mandal, gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the CrPC in the court on Tuesday.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Nazneen Rehana sent Joy to jail after recording the confessional statement, Munshiganj Court Police Inspector Jalal Uddin confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier, Joy was arrested around 9pm on Monday. A case was filed against him under the Information Technology Act at night, Sirajdikhan police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Md Borhanuddin said.

According to the case, Joy made offensive remarks about the Holy Quran through social media that sparked outrage in the area.

Police then arrested Joy Mandal and seized the mobile phone to avoid any untoward situation.
